{July 23, 2010}   Not Enough Time – Cake Woe

Today was rough.  I went in to work at nine to find that I had 7 (seven) cake orders due at ten.  I guess you I don’t need to tell you that I didn’t make it.  We had to call some customers and see if it was okay for them to pick their orders up a little later.  Fortunately, they were alright with that.  Of course, when I originally took the order three days ago (it was for the rec center), they had only ordered four 1/4 sheets and wanted to pic them up at twelve.  When I got to work today, they’d ordered two more and changed the pic up from 12 to 10.  And I had another, separate, order for ten.

Tomorrow probably won’t be any better.  I clock in at ten and have four or five orders for twelve.  I’m counting on being super rushed tomorrow too.  *sigh*

Well, no cake blog is complete without a picture of cake, so…here ya go.

It’s not all the impressive…Pink, green, and purple.  And there’s a smear across my cam lens that has since been cleaned.  lol
So, to recap, today was a definite Cake Woe…

Okay.  I’m looking for readers.  Specifically, beta readers, crit partners, whatevers.  Never knew I needed such a thing before a few months ago.  Well, let me rephrase that.  I knew I needed people to read my stories and tell me what needed fixing.  Never knew they actually had a title and that agents “required” them before submission.  This lack of readership could possibly be the reason why i have so many WIPs and nothing out for submission.  I can’t do it by myself.  I need help.

I write adult science fiction and fantasy.  I have three WIPs that are in the editing stages and I need help.  Please.  If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested, or know the best way to go about this, let me know.  Send me an e-mail or something.

I just finninshed reading Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.  It’s a YA novel, not my favorite, but it was very well written.  A very good book.  Took me just over two days to finish it.  Not a record, but still good time.  I didn’t want to put it down, kept wanting to know what was going to happen.

Hush, Hush is about a sixteen-yr-old Nora Grey who gets stuck next to Patch the “transfer student” when the seating chart gets reassigned.  He’s sexy, dark, and mysterious, and creeps the heck out of her.  Someone has been watching her, and it doesn’t help that Patch seems to know way too much about her.

I don’t want to give too much away.  There are parts of the story that could be a little cliche, but are so well written I was able to overlook them.  I was a little concerned about the “mother” element.  She was present, yet very conveniently out of the picture for most of the story.  Necessary, yes.  Absolutely.  And well done, but…I dunno…maybe I was a little too sheltered.  LOL

All in all, a good read, and I can’t wait for the next.  I reccomend it, fully.

{July 21, 2010}   The Lost Photo Cake
For your own enjoyment, the lost photo cake from the other day.
The lady was turning Eighty.  I would categorize this as a definite WIN.

{July 20, 2010}   Photo Cakes
Okay, well, I was sure I had more photo cakes than this, I know I’ve made more, but I just haven’t taken any pictures, I guess.  This first one was NOT my creation, but it didn’t turn out too bad.  It was for a bridal shower and this is exactly how they wanted it.  The strawberries look yummy and the roses are pretty too.  The bottom three could probably be a little more centered though.

This was for a guy who played guitar…obviously.  lol  Kinda plain.  Well, okay, very plain, but this was what they wanted.  It looks good though.  I’m glad I framed the image with a border.
I have another photo cake on my camera, I’m just too lazy to get it off right now.  lol  Later.  Definitely.

{July 19, 2010}   Good Morning to a New Chapter

Took less than an hour to edit a second chapter in the second oldest finished mss I have.  lol  Mostly because the new chapter was already written several months ago.  I just had to fix it to fit with what I now want for my story…  So, go me!  lol  That’s exciting.  And I started the third chapter as well.  Got a plan for that.

I started a new blog!  You should all go check it out!  It’s a cake decorating blog, so you can see pictures of my very first wedding cake EVER!  “Where’s the link, Tyff?” you may all be asking.  Right here.  Cake Wins and Woes: The Non-glamorous Life of a Grocery Store Chain Cake Decorator  Yes, it’s a long name, but you should try working where I work…Every day is looooong.  lol  Anyway.  Check it out!

{July 18, 2010}   Wedding Cake Win
I made my first wedding cake yesterday.  Such an exciting experience!  I can now say that I have officially made a wedding cake AND delivered it to the venue!  It took me one hour and 8 minutes.
I was sooo nervous.  Like, “what if I screw up their wedding cake?!”  The lady came in to pay while I was mixing the teal color for it and I asked if the color was right.  She said, “…It’s supposed to be lavender.”  Good thing I asked!  I almost didnt!  Nowhere on the order sheet did it say anything about lavender, so I was going by the color on the picture I had in the book.
Anyway, I think I did really well for my first wedding cake!  I got started and was looking at all of the pictures and I thought, “I’ve done all of this stuff before, just never all on one cake and never for a ‘wedding cake’ specifically.”  I think it’s the title of “Wedding Cake” that got me so nervous.  You just don’t want to ruin someone’s wedding day by messing up their wedding cake, ya know?
Here it is with the topper.  Yes, I did deliver it.  And there you have it, my first wedding cake experience.  =)

{July 16, 2010}   Couldn’t Sleep…So I Wrote

Woke up somewhere between 3:30 and 3:50 this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep.  I was expecting a phone call earlier in the evening, a phone call that never came and it threw me off completely.  So, when the clock struck 5:00, an hour before my alarm was to go off, and it became apparent that I wouldn’t be going back to sleep, I decided, what better time than to get up and write?  I’d planned to make that priority number one, anyway, so getting it in an hour earlier than I’d planned didn’t seem like a bad thing.  I worked on one of the oldest stories I have, one that I feel very strongly about and love very deeply, but have been working on it for so long that it’s gotten old, stale.  Even with all of the changes I’ve made…  So, it’s fallen by the wayside.  Earleir this week I decided to give it another try.  I’m going to keep at it until this thing is finished!  Wether it will be published or not…that’s another story, but I’m going to try.  I got the first chapter revamped and I have to figure out what I’m going to do with the second…but at least I have a plan.  =)  That’s a good note to start the day on.

Oh…and, while I didn’t get a phone call, I did get a text.  lol

I have to say, you guys are great!  I’m up to twenty-one followers.  That’s five more people than when I went on my temporary hiatus!  Thanks, and hello to the new followers!

I haven’t done much on the writing front…this week or last.  I currently have three WIP’s that I need to edit.  I proofed a chapter in the older one on Monday, but I didn’t get around to the rewrite.  I’ve been sick as a mother since Saturday…and I haven’t been able to sleep the last two nights.  And I’m still having to go to work because I’m not contagious and I don’t have a fever.  Life sucks…

I’m thinking about starting two more blogs.  “But you don’t even use this one.”  I can hear you saying it.  LOL  I know…you’re right, but if I prioritize better…I can do it.  I know I can.  I thought I would start a blog for my cakes ( I have a wedding cake this Saturday!  SOOO excited!  And another in a few weeks!) and I wanted to start one dedicated to decorating my room/moving out, getting my own place, and starting my own life.  Opinions would be much appreciated.  =)

{July 11, 2010}   After a Short Haitus…

I was awakened by a phone call (a phone call that I was waiting for, even in the stupor of sleep), and found myself hungry.  Very hungry, as a matter of fact.  I went to sleep incredibly early due to a sinus headache and didn’t eat dinner, so I got up to make myself a salad.  Now, I am currently waiting for said person to call me back as they are at work and had to take a quick potty break…  LOL

I have two new followers!  Amazing, since I haven’t blogged but once a week for the last two weeks.  Thanks Mac and Sandra for having faith in me!  LOL  And thanks to those of you who have offered encouragement while I work through a very hard time.  Today started out rough, but got better throughout the day.  I’m going to try to start blogging a little more.  As for those goals I set for the other day…HA!  Yeah…right…
